Melco Resorts and Entertainment Limited inks solar power partnership

Asian casino operator, Melco Resorts and Entertainment Limited, has announced the signing of a deal that will see it partner with a local sustainable energy generation firm in order to launch Macau’s largest solar power array.

Two properties to benefit:

The Hong Kong-headquartered gambling firm used an official Wednesday press release to detail that the alliance with Man Io Energy is to involve some 18,000 solar photovoltaic panels being installed on the rooftops of its Studio City Macau and City of Dreams Macau integrated casino resorts. It explained that the almost 322,917 sq ft system will subsequently be able to produce close to 7.7 million kilowatt hours of energy every year, which is equivalent to the annual energy needed to power some 1,500 average households.

Carbon dioxide reduction:

Listed on NASDAQ’s Global Select Market, Melco Resorts and Entertainment Limited is also responsible for the Altira Macau and City of Dreams Manila integrated casino resorts as well as Macau’s Mocha Clubs chain of electronic gaming machine parlors. It stated that the coming solar panel array is moreover expected to reduce its two giant properties’ annual carbon dioxide emissions by in excess of 6,000 tons, which would be the same amount of the deadly gas as is absorbed by approximately 260,000 trees every year.

‘Sustainable energy’ innovator:

Sam Liu, Business Development Director for Man Io Energy, declared that he was ‘thrilled’ to have been given an opportunity to partner with Melco Resorts and Entertainment Limited in order to launch a ‘pioneering sustainability project for Macau’s gaming and hospitality industry.’

Liu’s statement read…

“The vast scale of the system has never before been seen in Macau and, through the ongoing partnership with Melco Resorts and Entertainment Limited, our company has gained valuable knowledge and on-the-field experience to establish its foundation as a forerunner in the area of sustainable energy.”
